History of the Society

The Society was first established as a voluntary association in January 1944 by a group of persons who had been designated by White to share responsibility for the developments he had planned. They included:

  • Ronald Dussek, who after leaving Radley College became organist of the pro-cathedral at Guilford and was chairman of the Society until his death in 1961.
  • Dom Bernard McElligott, O.S.B., the authority on Gregorian Chant.
  • Mrs. Edith White, who was appointed Director of Studies.
  • Arthur D. Hewlett, who became the Honorary President.

In 1965 the Society was reconstituted under a trust deed and registered as a charity.

Objects

The Society exists:

  • as a memorial to the life and work of Ernest George White.
  • to promote research into the technique which White discovered and taught.
  • to train teachers in the technique of voice-production known as White's Technique.
